THE DANGERS OF THE NEW AGE ANGELS

Have you also been coming across many posts on various social media platforms and on the internet in general about "connecting with your guardian angel" or similar?

Sites with names like "Celestial something or other" or "Consult the Angels" (names slightly changed for obvious reasons) and many others, appear to be coming more to the fore in recent times. They are very deceptive. Most of them bring “encouraging” messages and can give you a “feel good” feeling. But, believe me, they are anything but safe!

There is much fascination with angels. One often hears (incorrectly so!!!) that when someone who has died, they are now "an angel in heaven." One gets angel cards. People talk about their guardian angels. Movies feature angels who come to earth with various missions. BUT … let us look a little closer…

In the Bible we read of angels. The Bible also uses other terms undoubtedly referring to angels, namely seraphim (Isa. 6:2), cherubim (Ezek. 10:1-3), and ministering spirits, which is perhaps more of a description than a name (Heb. 1:13).

The Bible describes Angels as follows:

  • Angels are spirit beings (Hebrews 1:14)

  • That they are "mighty in strength" (Psalm 103:20)

  • Angels are intelligent and can communicate in words humans understand (1 Kings 13:18; Matthew 1:20, 2:13, 19; Acts 10:3)

  • The holy angels serve God

There are also fallen angels:

  • Fallen angels - those who rebelled with Satan and also known as evil or unclean spirits, or demons (Revelation 12: 4, 7-9)

New Age and Diabolical Teaching

There are many websites and social media pages that promote the fact that we all have a guardian angel and we should interact with he/she as they act as “intermediaries” between us and God. They stress that they are there to “help” and “comfort” us, etc, etc. They tend to highlight angels above the Lord Jesus Christ. Instead of pointing people to Jesus, they encourage people to get help from angels. In picture format and description, some of the angels are depicted as female (contrary to the Bible which depicts angels in masculine form). The truth about these “new age” angels and the emphasis on angels is that it is demonic. These so-called “guardian angels” are spirit guides.

What are spirit guides? A spirit guide is believed (by those who use them) to be a disembodied being who is their personal guide for those "ready" for such guidance. A spirit guide may be referred to as any of these: A guide An angel A guardian angel An alien A "spiritual master" An "ascended master"

Spirit guides are fallen angels, also known as unclean spirits, evil spirits, or demons.

The guides initially seem benevolent and helpful. However, many people can have really bad or scary experiences with them later.

Be aware that many of the social media sites and websites (and books) dealing with angels, guardian angels, encourage people to “communicate” with them, ask them for help and guidance. If one does that, it is tantamount to communicating with demons, something that is totally forbidden by God.

The messages will often sound comforting and very spiritual. Often embellished religious language, biblical references, and quotations from the Bible, so as to enhance the deception and make it seem more spiritual. Satan can quote Scripture; he did so when tempting Jesus in the wilderness (Matthew 4:1-11)

So, in short, websites, social media pages, and books of this nature are very dangerous and are inspired by Satan and his angels. They are full of spiritual poison, and are absolutely not from God!

So, as followers of the Lamb, soldiers of the Cross, we need to put on the whole armour of God and stand against the whiles of the enemy. We need to be very discerning in what we watch, read and use to pass on to others. Check the sources carefully. Remember to "Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour" (1 Peter 5:8) There is much one can learn about Angels from the Bible, including the Angel of the Lord, but that is a huge study. The important thing to remember is that anyone who encourages one to have a guardian angel to “communicate” with, to call on in the day of trouble, to guide one, is on a very wrong and very dangerous path. Stick to the Bible. Follow what is true. There is One mediator between God and man, the Man, Christ Jesus! (1 Timothy 2:5)
