Going through Leviticus and Numbers can be a challenge due to the detail BUT … it certainly gives us a greater appreciation of the grace of God. It certainly gives us a picture of how it was – all the laws and sacrifices – before Jesus came to die on Calvary for our sins, once for all.
We read in Hebrews 7: “Now there have been many other priests, since death prevented them from continuing in office. But because Jesus lives forever, He has a permanent priesthood. Therefore, He is able to save completely those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to intercede for them. … Unlike the other high priests, He does not need to offer daily sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the sins of the people; He sacrificed for sin once for all when He offered up Himself". (v 23-25 & 27)
I always find it such a wonderful thought that the detail with which everything had to be and was made (as instructed by the LORD), is a shadow of that which is in heaven. Hebrews 8:5 says “the priests served “… at a copy and shadow of the heavenly sanctuary. That is why Moses was warned when he was about to build the tabernacle, “See to it that you make everything according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.” As Colossians 2:17 reminds us: “… these rules are only shadows of the reality yet to come. And Christ Himself is that reality.”
It is so important not to brush over or skip the detail in these books of the Bible. We serve an awesome God (in the true sense of the word) and He is preparing an awesome place for us. But ... there is only one way we can enter that awesome place and that is through the precious blood of Jesus which He shed for us, once for all, at the cross of Calvary. Jesus is the ONLY Way, the ONLY Truth and the ONLY Life - no one comes to the Father except through Jesus. Make sure you have surrendered your life to Him and accepted Him as your Lord and Saviour.
