Are you hungry & thirsty?
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled” (Matthew 5:6)
Many reading this message may be feeling empty!
Perhaps you are trying to fill the “God-shaped vacuum” in your life, that emptiness, that hunger & thirst with something other than the righteousness of God. Something that cannot satisfy. Not necessarily always wrong things in and of themselves, eg doing good works, education, money, career, earthly possessions. Others try to fill the void with other things like achievement, power, sex, drugs, drink, living the “high life”, accumulating wealth – all these give a false sense of fun, entertainment and some form of temporal pleasure and satisfaction.
BUT, all these things lead to a deeper sense of need, a deeper longing for satisfaction, because they are unable to fill the hunger and thirst within them.
J.N. Darby once wrote:
“To be hungry is not enough; I must be really starving to know what is in His heart towards me. When the prodigal son was hungry he went to feed upon husks, but when he was starving, he turned to his father.”
The emptiness that fills our lives can only be satisfied in Christ Jesus, the true Righteousness. Only when we hunger and thirst after Christ can that void, that emptiness, be filled. The things of this world will not satisfy; only the Lord Jesus Christ satisfies. This is the message of hope, both then and now, to those who do not already have a relationship with Jesus. Why keep “messing about” with things that will only cause more pain and emptiness?
Accept His offer of joy, peace, and satisfaction, amongst many other things, made available to you in Christ – and in Christ alone!
TODAY, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.
